Artist Statement:
During the extended months of lockdown in 2020 I spent many hours contemplating shoes--mine and my daughters’--marveling at their architectural qualities. Their exquisite union of function and form, their utilitarian moxie, moved me to start recreating them using the most ubiquitous of pandemic materials: cardboard. Eventually my gaze moved on to other quotidian objects in my domain: dishes, fruit, hats, musical instruments, picture frames. These simulacrums of the stuff of our everyday lives are reflections of the power that objects hold over us through sentiment, beauty, or utility, rendered in one of the least appreciated and most abundant materials in our world.
