Artist Statement:

Fernando Martí (he/him/el) is a poet, printmaker, community architect and housing activist. His work reflects his formal training in urbanism, his roots in rural Ecuador, and his current home in the heart of Empire. His poetry, prints, ofrendas and constructions inhabit the space between ancestral cosmologies and a Latinx futurism. An immigrant from Ecuador, he came of age in the 80s in the San Gabriel Valley, and now lives on occupied Ramaytush Ohlone land, San Francisco, with his partner, teenage child, and Bunnicula the rabbit. Fernando studied architecture and urbanism in college, which led to a career organizing around housing and displacement. He currently teaches art at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts and at the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts, architectural design at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s Urban Program, and SF housing politics at USF. His artistic/political home is with Justseeds Artists Cooperative (justseeds.org), where you can find his work and writings.
